Let’s Talk About Some Ways To De-Stress.

The underlying ‘disease’ of our current society…

What happens when we first wake in the morning?

Do we leap out of bed, grab a quick shower; watch the latest doom and gloom on TV as we hurriedly drink a coffee tying our shoes, send a quick text message, bang on the teenagers door  as we rush out the front door… cursing at the traffic.. and wishing we’d finished that report yesterday instead of going home via the local … only to get home late and skip dinner again…..

Like a car… moving at 100km an hour.. until it finally runs out of fuel… It has no more acceleration as the fuel is exhausted, though its motion continues due to the already acquired velocity…..until it eventually stops…

Spent… nothing to give ..

Now imagine a different start to the day….

Getting up say 10 or 15 minutes earlier than usual… having a quiet cup of coffee before the rest of the household get up… and setting up the day in your mind… setting the intention for the day… leisurely running through your day segment by segment .. Viewing each component of the day as being how you’d like it to be….  Driving through traffic unhurriedly, after a nourishing breakfast… and saying a warm goodbye to the family before arriving at your destination… Seeing the day unfold in your mind’s eye going from segment to segment with each moment in time being productive, enjoyable, mutually rewarding… .. planning a brief stroll and social interaction during the middle of your day to recharge your energy… and visualizing yourself.. arriving home and relaxing with the family.. or enjoying a quiet evening with heartfelt conversations with friends before retiring to bed with the expectation of sleeping soundly and waking the next day… maybe even a further 10 minutes earlier.. to include a short walk or jog…. Whilst you prepare in your mind.. the new day that unfolds….

A simple process.. yet especially empowering…

Segment Intending….

Like building a solid foundation for a house….starting each day with a bit of quiet time… a time to plan for the day ahead whether it’s a Sunday and you’re planning to stay at home and paint the back fence… and watch football … or sit on the back verandah sipping cocktails..… or whether you’re heading down the Terrace to that all important meeting.. that could make or break that deal….  When you segment intend your day… your activities… on how you want them to look like, feel like.. sound like… your subconscious mind’s job is do everything in its power to bring together the request…

Like a child… if the child hasn’t been taught how to behave or given ideas on what it can do… it will go about looking for something to do.. which may not necessarily be appropriate.

Taking just a few moments… whilst enjoying the early morning coffee.. stroll or even whilst taking that morning shower… running through in your mind… how you’re going to enjoy this new day unfolding… the people you’ll be meeting,  and in your own mind… looking forward to feeling good about yourself..and your contribution to the day.    When we begin in this way….from a place of perfect peace…and a sense of centering… no matter what curved balls are thrown our way… we seem to manage them better.. and in some cases.. as you’ve intended so heartily about your intentions to feel uplifted and inspired… some of those perceived curved balls.. are not even part of our world… we miss them completely… and find ourselves not getting caught up in the unnecessary dramas….

We move more deliberately… talk and think more deliberately … things change in our world…and whilst we can acknowledge difficult times, and can sometimes get momentarily caught up in the dramas… as we recognize it more and more quickly…we can quickly take step back from them momentarily and re align ourselves.. segment intend that moment again…we can find ourselves back on track faster than ever before…back in control…

Before you know it… its become a habit… a powerful start to your day… all it took was a few moments… of reflection before you stepped into your day…
